conference is jointly organized by the Art Therapy Association of
Quebec (AATQ),
the Canadian Art Therapy Association (CATA), and
Dr. Josée Leclerc (Department of Creative Arts Therapies,
Concordia University).

The Association des art-thérapeutes
du Québec is one of four professional associations for art
therapists in Canada. Founded in 1981, the primary goals of the
AATQ include promoting the development of the profession of Art
Therapy and its ethical practice, protecting the interests of persons
using art therapy services, informing professional and student members
of current research, creating awareness of Art Therapy amongst other
health professionals and the public, and working to establish Art
Therapy as a recognized profession in Quebec and Canada. It distributes

Canadian
Art Therapy Association (CATA)
The Canadian Art Therapy Association (C.A.T.A.) assumed its present
constitution in 1981. Its founder Dr. Martin A. Fischer first established
the organization in 1977. The objectives of the association are
to encourage and sponsor activities that enhance the progressive
development of professional standards of art therapy practice, training,
research, publications and conferences, and to increase awareness
of art therapy as an important mental health discipline in Canada.
The association is open to individuals and organizations interested
in the field of Art Therapy. Each autumn the Association convenes

Dr. Josée Leclerc, Concordia University
The Department of Creative Arts Therapies at
Concordia University offers the only full Masters Program in Creative
Arts Therapies in Canada (http://art-therapy.concordia.ca).
Josée Leclerc, Ph.D., ATR-BC, ATPQ, is Associate Professor
and Director of the Graduate Art Therapy Program at the Department
of Creative Arts Therapies. The Art as Witness International Conference
grew out of her research on the role of art in trauma resolution.
She is also the Conference Program Chair. Dr. Leclerc wishes to
thank the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada
(SSHRC) and Concordia University for research grants that have made
the organization of the conference possible.
